Have you seen ? Small , smaller . . . dendritic spine

چکیده
Spines are highly motile protrusions emerging from the dendritic shafts of neurons. The dynamics of these postsynaptic structures are ruled by actin filament turnover. However, our understanding of the mechanisms of actin polymerization in dendritic spines is quite ambiguous. A recent study by the Giannone laboratory (Chazeau et al, 2014) is now shedding some light on the peculiar features of actin polymerization in dendritic spines, which are distinct from the known canonical mechanisms.

متن کاملA tetra(ethylene glycol) derivative of benzothiazole aniline ameliorates dendritic spine density and cognitive function in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease.
We recently reported that the tetra(ethylene glycol) derivative of benzothiazole aniline, BTA-EG4, acts as an amyloid-binding small molecule that promotes dendritic spine density and cognitive function in wild-type mice. This raised the possibility that BTA-EG4 may benefit the functional decline seen in Alzheimer's disease (AD). In the present study, we directly tested whether BTA-EG4 improves ...
متن کاملControl of Dendritic Spine Morphological and Functional Plasticity by Small GTPases.
Structural plasticity of excitatory synapses is a vital component of neuronal development, synaptic plasticity, and behaviour. Abnormal development or regulation of excitatory synapses has also been strongly implicated in many neurodevelopmental, psychiatric, and neurodegenerative disorders. In the mammalian forebrain, the majority of excitatory synapses are located on dendritic spines, special...
متن کاملSpine-Neck Geometry Determines NMDA Receptor-Dependent Ca2+ Signaling in Dendrites
Increases in cytosolic Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i) mediated by NMDA-sensitive glutamate receptors (NMDARs) are important for synaptic plasticity. We studied a wide variety of dendritic spines on rat CA1 pyramidal neurons in acute hippocampal slices. Two-photon uncaging and Ca2+ imaging revealed that NMDAR-mediated currents increased with spine-head volume and that even the smallest spines cont...
متن کاملPharmacological reversion of sphingomyelin-induced dendritic spine anomalies in a mouse model for Niemann Pick disease type A
Thank you for the submission of your manuscript "Role of sphingomyelin on dendritic spine actin cytoskeletal anomalies and their pharmacological reversion in Type A Niemann-Pick disease" and please accept my apologies for not replying earlier. I have now had the opportunity to carefully read your paper and the related literature and I have also discussed it with my colleagues. I am afraid that ...
